Sports Premium

What is Sports Premium Grant?

The Sports Premium Grant is additional funding from the Government to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. It is also for improving the health and wellbeing of primary pupils.

How much is the Sports Premium Grant?

Allocations are calculated using the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6 and those age 5 in Reception, as recorded at the January Census as follows:

Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 plus £10 per eligible pupil.

At Bradfield Dungworth, we received £16,900 for the academic year 2019-20.  It is anticipated that as a school we will receive a similar amount for 2020/21.

How have we spent our Sports Premium?

  • HLTA PE Specialist

As of September 2020, we have employed Gareth Myers in a HLTA role. Mr Myers is a PE specialist and delivers PE across school as part of his HLTA role. Mr Myers brings a wealth of knowledge on the subject, including developing assessment materials to be used throughout school, as well as a passion and enthusiasm for PE that has saturated throughout school.

  • Links Membership* and external coaches

This gives us access to local tournaments. We join in with local cluster events. We also get support from the local High School. During 2017/18 we had a coach working with class teachers to deliver Taekwondo, tennis and cricket. In 2018/19 we had a badminton coach, a gymnastics coach and cricket coach working across school alongside class teachers. In 2019/20 the taekwondo coach returned. This led to a number of pupils joining his external taekwondo class.

*Due to covid restrictions, we have paused our membership with Links. Once covid restrictions are relaxed we aim to renew our membership.

  •  Increased Opportunities for Competition*

All year groups to have the opportunity to attend at least 1 competitive opportunity per year. We support individual children to attend high level competitions where there is a need and cover transport costs where appropriate e.g. mini buses.

* Due to covid related restrictions, competition between schools has been halted. Once restrictions are eased/lifted we intend to return to providing similar opportunities for a range of competitions in a variety of sports.

  • Increased breadth of sporting experiences

In the summer term of 2021, we are implementing a 'This is Circus' covid secure programme run by a specialist working within our school on behalf of Greentop (http://www.greentop.org/). It will be delivered across school and intends to support addressing key areas including: engaging students across all fitness levels; promoting physical and mental wellbeing; encouraging resilience and collaboration; and developing skills in creative thinking.

  • Workshops

In the Spring term 2019 all the children experienced a skipping workshop to increase the percentage of pupils skipping during playtime. This was due to be repeated in May 2020 but was postponed until 2021 due to the Covid 19 outbreak.

  • Increased After School Sports provision

Hiring in specialist, qualified sports coaches –  Basketball, Taekwondo, Cheerleading and Multi Sport, badminton, tennis, and football.

Participation last year increased from 60% to 80% of children attending at least one after school club.

  • Sainsburys' School Games

We achieved the Silver Award for participation in Sporting activity in 2019-20 for the 4th year in a row. We also achieved a Bronze award from LINKS for KS1 participation.

  •  Opportunities for Teacher Professional development

Teachers released to attend centralised training e.g gymnastics. Teachers work alongside LINKS sports coach to teach gymnastics
